ONE-NAME STUDY OF DITCHBURNS

when my database contained approximately 12,500 records of Ditchburns and their close relatives.
For the uninitiated, a One-name study can be defined as 'research into the genealogy and family history of all persons with the same surname and its variants' This is the definition adopted by The Guild of One-Name Studies (GOONS) an organisation (a registered charity) which offers help to, and co-ordination between, those involved in One-Name Studies. Probably most people undergoing One-Name studies come to it via family tree researches, as I have myself; see My family tree . Information about some Ditchburns from the Middle Ages living at Ditchburn in Northumberland UK may well refer to the people who first used the name anywhere ; and studies of 17th and 18th century Ditchburns in Northumberland are also relevant; see Early Ditchburns.Later records show that Ditchburns have spread through the English-speaking worldcountries - Ditchburn distribution.Their website is at :-

My present Ditchburn database is the result of searching records for Ditchburns from
Vital Records, marriage indexes, census returns, web sites and other sources. I have also received information from other Ditchburns and their relatives who have come across this website. These have been very helpful in particular in linking various individual records so that families are identified. The database has enabled me to help other interested Ditchburns to take their family trees further back by several generations.
