The Pie Charts presented on this page have been derived from several different sources including telephone directories (which, of course, are known to be less than complete indicators of the numbers of people with a particular surname). They are certainly very approximate and are almost certainly underestimates of the numbers of Ditchburns in the different countries, and hence also in the world total which is here estimated as at least 3320. The figures may give a reasonable guide to the relative frequencies of Ditchburns in different places.

Of course the populations of both the North and the South of England are greater than they are in the other parts of the UK. Nevertheless the chart shows that over half the estimated total number of UK Ditchburns live in the North of England. The below Table shows that most of these live in the North East of the country, an area that comprises Northumberland, Durham, Cleveland and North Yorkshire:-
